Bloggers to Change World, Plan to Celebrate Victory

take actionBloggers have been gaining more respectability throughout the years as they become major players in shaping public opinion. If you don’t beliuveme that bloggers can change the world, just read this blog entry. October 15th will be the day of action for bloggers, you can get involved yourself.

Blog Action Day, is just one vehicle for that change, but it is a powerful concept: thousands of bloggers unite, for just one day, to talk about one issue. Will that change the world, just one day? Not immediately, but it in effect unites the blogging community. And once the community begins to unite, anything is possible.

We Feel Fine

feelbetter.pngThe “blogosphere” is filled of many things that make little sense. As a result, when I see something like We Feel Fine I get overjoyed.

We Feel Fine is a graphical way to explore the zeitgeist of the moment based on what bloggers have written about their lives. You can see what age groups is more concerned about what and if guys care more about love more than girls.

It’s a fantastic way to explore the emotions of the internet.

Use FaceBook to Strut Your Greenery

FaceBook, that ever-popular socail networking tool has a neat application that you can add to your profile that outlines how green you are! It’s called I am Green and symbolizes how green you are by creating a leaf for you.

From Inside Facebook:

“I Am Green” is a networking application for facebook members about caring for the future of our planet by changing little things we do everyday. Members change small things about their every day lives, and share these ideas together. Some of the popular actions are using cold water instead of hot, switching to the right green products, and not using paper or plastic in many specific cases where habit draws us but it’s not needed. Members call their green actions ‘Leaves’ which they pile up. Their lists are displayed on their profile for all their friends to see and endorse or even copy. Its a smart way to find out about little things that will make a better tomorrow.’

It’s still in development so it’s limited in what you can add as a green-realted thing you do. For example, you can be vegan and not vegetarian. Even being vegetarian helps the environment, just eating less meat and more veggies is still a step in the right direction for the planet and your health.

Google’s Solar Energy Output

In the last 24 hours, Google produced 9,949 kilowatt-hours of electricity from the sun.

Google’s solar panels are up and running! In fine Google fashion, you can see how much energy the panels create each and every day. They also make it easy to understand, for example, 9,949 KW is equal to 6,215 dishwasher cycles.

Eyes on Darfur

Amnesty International has started a new campaign that aims to bring the world’s eyes onto the crisis in Darfur through a new website Eyes on Darfur. The site offers users the ability to see up to date satellate imagery of what’s going on in the troubled region. This Amnesty Interanatinal project sounds simialr to what Google Earth recently did.

Amnesty International USA’s unprecedented Eyes On Darfur project leverages the power of high-resolution satellite imagery to provide unimpeachable evidence of the atrocities being committed in Darfur – enabling action by private citizens, policy makers and international courts. Eyes On Darfur also breaks new ground in protecting human rights by allowing people around the world to literally “watch over” and protect twelve intact, but highly vulnerable, villages using commercially available satellite imagery.

let’s hope that this will get more people writing their officals to do something about the crisis!
