‘Bloodless’ Surgery becoming more popular

Surgical techniques that do not require blood transfusions are becoming more and more popular, according to an article on MSNBC. Surgeons use a variety of techniques and technologies to minimize or remove the need for costly blood transfusions during surgery.

These bloodless operations were once only available to Jehova’s Witnesses, who’s religion prohibits blood transfusions, but are now being offered tothe general public at many hospitals.

Transfusions are very costly, and also carry a risk of rejection by the patient. Many people opt to have transfusions of their own blood, drawn in advance, before a surgery. Bloodless surgery techniques save money and are better for the patient.

Better Sex Through Equality

A new study by the researchers at Chigago University has shown that sex is considered more satisfying in countries where men and women share more equality. Austria has the highest rates of sexual satisfaction among countries worldwide. Canada, Spain, Belgium and the United States also reported very high rates of enjoyment within peoples sex lives. Japan ranked the lowest with only 25.7% of folks reporting a good quality of romantic pleasure.

Less Antibiotics = Healthier Humans

Australia has a policy that restricts the use of antibiotics used for food animals, and as a result people in Australia are healthier according to a new study.

“An Australian solution to the drug resistance problem has been to prohibit the use of certain antibiotics, called fluoroquinolones, in food animals such as poultry. Such a policy puts Australia in a relatively unique position, since its animal and food production levels are comparable to those of other industrialized nations, but it has avoided using the antibiotics that have been standard in the other countries’ food animal production.”

Hopefully other countries will catch on to this to help people live healthier lives.

For a long time researchers have been unable to discover what exactly causes asthma. Researchers at Harvard have found that “killer cells” are responsible for asthma, which is contrary to the popular theory that “helper cells” exasperate the development of asthma.

Finding the primary cell that causes asthma can lead to much more effective treatments.
