Bad Signs, Good Blog

Here in Toronto city hall continues to not act on taking down illegal signs, even in their own neighbourhood. There are a lot of them, and I mean a lot. It’s rather shocking actually. What’s a Torontonian going to do?

Start a blog about it at IllegalSigns.ca!

IllegalSigns.ca is a team of volunteers who fight illegal billboards and this is our blog. Half the billboards in Toronto are illegal — help us bring the vast, unlawful privatization of our public visual environment to an end.

Please pardon this Toronto-centric post.

Find Where to Get Things Green

Five Limes has an online googlemaps mashup that takes your city and overlays information on where you can purchase green goods and services!

They have a ranking of the greenest cities and currently Victoria BC is in the lead! Go ahead and add cities and stores that you know are green.

Here’s an example using Toronto (ranked 7th):

Goodness Radio!

I’ll be on the radio Friday from 1:30 to 3 pm talking about ThingsAreGood.com!

Feel free to call in to the show (we’ll give the # out over the airwaves).

You can tune in over the internet (direct link) or turn your radio dial to CHRY 105.5 if your in Toronto.

Car Sharing in Toronto

logosThe Torontoist has a great look at two car sharing companies that are fighting it out on the streets of Toronto. Car sharing has been around for years and is quickly becoming a staple of the urban experience. Yet, in North America car sharing is not nearly has strong as it is in Europe.

The Torontoist looks at the benefits of car sharing and how the two companies have slightly different strategies. I like how there is now competition in this market in Toronto because it has made more people aware of car sharing. Ever shared car equals to about 10 less cars on the road!

Belated Thanks

I’ve been gone for a week working at a camp in Ontario’s north so I haven’t had a chance to thank everyone for coming out to our GOOD event last week! (Photos to come later) We were able to raise over $300 for Amnesty International!

Thanks to everybody who came out, and thanks to those who showed their good art!

The bands that rocked our socks were:
The Jeff Selver Experience
Terror Lake
Foxes

The artists that made our eyes feel special were:
Vivian Chong, Adi Zeharia, Sarah from The Rage, and Colin Stark, and Vivek from One Spirit Jewelry.

Let’s do it again sometime!
