Dreams in a Bank

Dream Bank is a website to list your dreams. It’s a simple idea, from the site:

First, we provide a fun, easy way for you to fund your dreams. By posting a dream on www.dreambank.org, friends, family and fans can contribute to your dream fund. Each contribution brings your dream closer to reality. Funding dreams is important, but so is support. DreamBank is also built as a community so you can connect and communicate with fellow Dreamers to: follow their progress, share ideas and resources, or just cheer them on.

Second, DreamBank is about helping the planet. By contributing to a dream, you spare the planet some of the nasty side effects of manufacturing, packaging and shipping gifts that, although we appreciate, we often don’t really need or want. Did you know that 83% of Americans received unwanted gifts during the 2006 holiday season? All that ‘stuff’ puts a strain on the environment.

OneWorld Creates Social Networking Site

oneclimate.netOneClimate.net is now the home of a social networking site that is focused on, you guessed it, the climate. OneWorld Network is a great source for news from around the world and I’m sure that this new social networking attempt for them will work out just as good as their news has.

I encourage you all to signup!

What the OneWorld UK team has done is to create innovative spaces and useful tools to enable you to communicate your experiences, insights, questions and answers about climate change. We only build the platforms: the content – almost all of it – is yours.

But we couldn’t have built the platforms without the generosity of the many people who believed in the importance of the cause.

Webby Connect Thoughts

I’m at the Webby Connect confernce (or summit) for TakingITGlobal and here’s some thoughts that I’m putting up on The Digital Divide Network:

The Webby Connect conference has a lot of smart people attending it, and that’s putting it mildly.

Today’s lineup of events started with looking at commercially generated content to increase brand exposure and ended with Ariannia Hufifington expressing her views on the sad state of American journalism. Don’t worry she has hope for the future – and rightly so!

As far as the digital divide and today went, there was some interesting things said. When discussing online brand strategies there was a lot of talk of using online video. The popularity of YouTube and other video sites has clearly shown that people want to watch streaming videos (particularly user-generated videos). After the talk, I went up to ask a few of the panelists if they ever thought about broadband constraints.

Webby Connect

Today I’m be heading to the Webby Connect conference. TakingITGlobal is sending me to represent The Digital Divide Network, two very good things I must say (but of course I’m bias). I’m going there to learn and meet some pretty smart people so I’m very very excited!

I’ll try to cross-post my blogging of Webby Connect here, but you can follow all of it at my blog at the Digital Divide Network.

I’ll try to keep all the good news coming, so if you have some good news you want to share feel free to email me or (if you know wordpress) signup and write an entry yourself.

The 59 Smartest Online Organizations

Squidoo has a list of not 60 but 59 of the “smartest orgs online,” and they are all winners! The list is English and North American-centric, which means that there are probably 59 smart organizations in tons of other languages that need to be listed.

This list really is great, I found some new sites that I didn’t know about and thought of others that can be on there.
