Small nano-sized rods have been used to kill cancer by shining light on them. The rods are placed inside of cancer cells, many rods can fit in one cell. When the nano rods are exposed to near-infrared light they heat up and kill the cancerous cells.
The next step is making the rods target cancerous cells, as opposed to placing the tubes in each individual cell. Don’t worry the researchers are already working on that.
Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, flew into Gulfport, Mississippi, Thursday. While he was speaking to reporters, his news conference was interrupted:
DICK CHENEY: I was talking to the mayor in those areas —
BYSTANDER: Go f*** yourself, Mr. Cheney.
DICK CHENEY: We have got to figure out what to do with all of the debris.
BYSTANDER: Go f*** yourself.
REPORTER: Are you getting a lot of that, Mr. Vice President?
CHENEY: That’s the first time I’ve heard it…
It’s good seeing people expressing their feelings, especially when talking directly to somebody like U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, a “former” CEO in Halliburton, a company that is making good profits out of Katrina.
Kellogg Brown & Root – a subsidiary of Halliburton – just received $12 million to rebuild a naval station in Gulfport. It is also getting another extra $5 million to fix another one, and is assessing the damages of the pumps and infrastructure in New Orleans.
Halliburton stocks are hitting a 52-week high, because of Hurricane Katrina. Good for the angry bystander.

California can now be added to the list of American States that have OK’d gay marriage, but Cali goes further. Now any “two persons” can be legally wed in the state.
Many people see California’s step as a good direction for the USA because social-politcal trends in the state are usually reflected by the rest of the country soon afterwards. What makes California unique (in America) is that the politicans took the steps needed to legalize gay marraige and not the courts.
British doctors are ready to experiment with spray-on skin that can be used to treat burns.Skin from the patient would be used to create new cells that can later be applied to the patient to assist in healing. The technique began in Australia and has been used to treat people already.
Most people with burns are treated with skin-graffs, but I think that spraying skin is better than grafting skin.
A group of people, LIFT, have created something really keen – sandals that seed.
The Johnny Apple Sandal has seeds in it that are distributed when you walk around. Like all sandals the sole wears thin, but contained within the soles of the Apple Sandal are the seeds.
The seeds inside of the sandal grow plants that break down harmful things in the environment.
