Two men used Google Earth for disaster release according to Ahmedabad News. I think this is an absolutely wonderful use of technology, I wonder if anyone predicted that Google Earth could be used in this way. It shows how a complex technological tool can be used to solve some really basic problems.
“Using Google Earth maps of Surat city, the duo passed on exact locations of societies, houses and apartments in need of rescue and relief, to airport authorities.
The co-ordinates were then relayed to helicopter captains to be logged on to their GPS devices and locate the homes. By Friday evening, they had managed 47 targeted air drops.”
As a quick aside, if you google earth you get Google Earth (kinda spooky).
Google Earth is evolving in so many interesting ways. I think it is a perfect example of a “build it and they will come” application. In this case, build the software and creative people will come up with tons of new ways to use it.
The Jane Goodall Foundation has Google Earth Blog where the blog entries are located at the locations where the chimps are being watched. There is a Risk style game called GE War and I’m sure there are many other interesting GE uses being cooked up right now.
Hi All Experts,
Does anyone use google earth images as ground image planes for use in aerial scenes. I know how to stitch them together but are there any tools or tricks to make sure that the images are at the same height, angle and such to make sure they stitch well. I know in the pro version you can get bigger images but im not going to pay for the pro version when i could stitch multiple images together…
effort into these and definitely hope you realize how deeply I take pleasure in it. I hope I can do anything
