Green Living Toolbox

From Mashable

The internet contains a lot of information, a lot of green information. Mashable has a Green Toolbox that is a massive list of online resources to help you with your green living. This list is very extensive!

From
The Carbon Diet – Track your carbon footprint every day and compare your footprint with those of your friends.
to
Hunuh – Community collaboration space where members can submit & discuss green technologies, services and processes.
This list is great!

WorldDevils Highlights Evil for Good

WorldDevils is a site that aims to bring people’s attention to the wrongdoers on our planet. The site is very young so right now it’s only a predictable list of devils (GW Bush to Carlos Menem). I encourage everyone to sign up and add some lesser-known evil people to see what happens at this site.

How is this site good you ask, well over at Mashable they argue that:

The hope with WorldDevils is to bring awareness to those individuals and entities that are causing harm on a larger level, whether it be socially or politically. The company has indicated that it will be adding a system for curbing the abuse of its system by those out to cause harm on a personal level.

It’s up to you decide if calling people devils increases awareness and will provoke change.

Mark Your Calendars to Stand Up

woot

Next month, October (ROCKtober) 16 and 17, to be precise, people will stand up to draw attention to international poverty. You can join millions of people from around the world to send a message to politicians that you Stand Up and Speak Out against poverty and inequality.

In 2000, world leaders from 189 countries signed up to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs ) — a global commitment to halve extreme poverty by 2015.

Last year, more than 23 million people in 87 countries stood up and took action to remind them of this promise. It was the largest single coordinated mobilization in the history of the Guinness World Records.

Find Meaningful Work

This is kinda obscure and not a clear how-to guide or anything of the sort. The Tyee, which I’ve started to read on a semi-regular basis, has a post about a 22 year old who has no idea what he’s doing with his life. I’m still doing that and I’m older (but not by much). I just know what I won’t do, and yes I acknowledge to even be in such a position is huge privilege.

This fellow is more active than I am though:

My name is Sean Aiken and like many others in my generation, I can’t tell you what it is that I want to do with my life. Help me figure it out by offering me a One Week Job. I am travelling throughout North America working a different job each week. All my wages are donated to the Make Poverty History/ONE Campaign.” (At the time of posting, $8,431.60 has been raised).

Start the Action Habit

I’ve been told that some habits are hard to break when referring to bad habits. Let’s reverse that and make a good habit hard to break. Fortunately the people over at Pick the Brain have a great article on the seven ways to grow the action habit.

They encourage people to take action to conquer many aspects of their lives. It’s an inspiring read, and after reading it I’m sure you’ll want to never break the action habit.

4. Use action to cure fear – Have you ever noticed that the most difficult part of public speaking is waiting for your turn to speak? Even professional speakers and actors experience pre-performance anxiety. Once they get started the fear disappears. Action is the best cure for fear. The most difficult time to take action is the very first time. After the ball is rolling, you’ll build confidence and things will keep getting easier. Kill fear by taking action and build on that confidence.
